Deb Vail

Deborah Vail (she/her) is most comfortable writing short fiction, yet she is inspired by the recent support she has received after sharing memoir pieces and personal essays. Her personal essay entitled, The Big Owe was runner up in the 2025 Lush-Triumphant Literary Award, and her essay, and Comfort Food in Plastic Wrap made The Fiddleheads' longlist in 2024.
Believing that writers need to support each other, she reviews debut novels by emerging Canadian writers, and facilitates writing circles through the Port Moody Rec Center.
In 2020 she completes an MFA in creative writing from the University of British Columbia, and since then her short stories, creative non-fiction, book reviews, and interviews have appeared in various Canadian journals such as The New Quarterly, The Antigonish Review, Prism International, Grain, Room, and The Malahat Review.
She lives Mission BC, located in the Fraser Valley on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, Máthexwi, and Katzie traditional territories.
